Description
Banyan Street by HH Photography of Florida.
Beautiful, ages old Banyan trees line both sides of the road on this small section of 2nd Street in Boca Grande, FL. Just one of the many sights you'll see in this beautiful, southern community which is located on Gasparilla Island. Boca Grande is home to a number of year round residents and many seasonal visitors.
In Spanish, Boca Grande means "Big Mouth" and it got it's name from the large mouth of the waterway called Boca Grande Pass which was once a deep, very busy shipping channel on the south end of the island.
The area is widely known for it's world class Tarpon fishing, it's quaint and charming downtown area, it's sugar sand beaches and gorgeous blue/green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Since there are no gas stations on the island, the main mode of transportation is via golf cart. The pace is somewhat slower here and in some ways, it feels like a step back in time. I love visiting Boca Grande and if you're ever in the area, I recommend a stop here too. You won't be disappointed.
