Description
Two Purple Passion Flowers by HH Photography of Florida.
Two Purple Passion Flowers (Passiflora incarnata) blooms sit side by side on a background of green vine in the late afternoon sunlight. This beautiful flower grows wild in the southern United States and was named ocoee by the Cherokee Native Americans in the Tennessee area. The Ocoee valley and river are named after this plant.

I didn't know what to call the Passion Flowers growing wild in our home in the country.. We called them "May Pops" because when the fruit of the flower ripened (usually at the end of May) the fruit was fabulous and when you broke open the lemon-sized fruit, it would "POP".. How rich and elegant the flower... you brought back memories, but made me ashamed I hadn't looked up the name and history of the plant. F/L/V

Beautiful capture of these gorgeous Passion Flowers. I don't know if the ones here bear fruit. The ones back home in Zimbabwe had the most delicious fruit. We called them granadillas, here they are know as passion fruit! l/f/t/G+

Thanks so much, Tessa. I know they do bear fruit but I haven't personally seen or tasted them. I think they have some medicinal properties too. :)
