Autumn Barn by HH Photography of Florida

High in the beautiful Nantahala Forest and mountains of western North Carolina, this rustic, old barn sits proudly, knowing it has many more useful days in it's future. Each year we, along with thousands of others seeking to revel in the beauty of this special season in the mountains, return to this beautiful area near Highlands, NC, for autumn foliage .

The only sounds one hears on this mountaintop are birds chirping, bees buzzing in the warmth of the late afternoon sun or the faint crowing of a distant rooster. The bubbling of the nearby Cullasaja river adds to the sounds that envelop you here.

On this cool day in October, the smell of smoke that curls from the chimney of a neighboring cottage fills the mountain air and in this upland forest, you forget all your troubles and cares, caught up in the delicious beauty of nature that surrounds you in every direction.
