Description
Preening Rosie by HH Photography of Florida.
A pretty, pink Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) is seen preening beside a local lake in the late afternoon sunlight. These colorful birds are often seen in fresh or salt water throughout Florida and the other Gulf coast states, foraging in coastal lagoons and marshes, lakes, coastal shorelines and grass flats, roadside ditches or anywhere shallow water collects. As they walk along, they swing their heads from side to side, sifting the muddy waters with their spatulate bill. A lovely pop of color in the tropical Florida landscape. Photographed in west central Florida.
