Mostly a nocturnal feeder, The Yellow-crowned Night Heron is sometimes seen out and about during the daylight hours. They feed along the coastline, in mangroves, swamps and streams, feasting on crustaceans of all types ... insects, earthworms, lizards and even mice, snakes and leeches.
Although their populations are considered stable at this time, they are vulnerable to habitat loss from encroachment by development or because of habitat degradation.
