Description
The Captain Of My Soul – Invictus by HH Photography of Florida.
Invictus is a poem that was written in 1875 by the English poet, William Ernest Henley. His words encourage us to face our fate with self-discipline and fortitude when dealing with the adversities of life.
Henley had lived an impoverished, poor, childhood and had contracted tuberculosis at a young age. The disease resulted in the amputation of one of his legs at the age of 26. He was told that the other leg would also require amputation but after multiple surgeries, the leg was saved. As he was in the hospital recovering, these words were born.
Invictus is a short poem of challenge and inspiration, optimism and motivation and has been quoted and read by such men as Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, Winston Churchill, and U.S. Prisoners of War in North Vietnamese prison camps during the Vietnam war, to name a few. The poem continues to encourage people around the world to this day.
The poem is written in black script on a blue, vertical background.
