A Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) fishing the coastal waters of the bay. The Reddish Egret lives full time in the states bordering the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Bahamas. These beautiful and colorful little herons are considered Near Threatened (NT) and it is believed there are only 1500-2000 nesting pair remaining in the wild, most residing in Texas where they are protected by law.~
