Artist's Description
Prayer For Holy Rest by HH Photography of Florida.
Although this beautiful prayer may be sent as a sympathy card, is often prayed at funerals or at end of life, it can also be said anytime we feel troubled or are facing difficulties or simply at the end of the day before sleep. Written in the 19th century by Saint John Henry Newman (1801-1890) an English theologian and poet who rose to become a cardinal in the Catholic church. He was canonised as a saint by the Church in 2019.
The prayer is shown on a vertical white background, written in powder blue text with a colorful spring wildflower border, top and bottom.
O Lord,
support us all the day long
of this troublous life,
until the shadows lengthen,
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over,
and our work is done.
Then, Lord, in thy mercy,
grant us a safe lodging,
a holy rest,
and peace at the last. Amen
