Off To Work I Go by HH Photography of Florida.
Leaving the commercial fishing village of Cortez, Florida, these fishermen head out into the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico at sunset for a little night fishing. The village of Cortez, is only one of a handful of working commercial fishing villages remaining in the Sunshine State. Founded in the early 1890’s by settlers from Beaufort, SC, historic Cortez is on the Registry of Historic Places and works very hard to maintain it’s old world charm. Relatives of the original founding fathers can still be found among the residents of this small, unincorporated community.
There’s nothing fancy about Cortez and as you travel through the village you’ll see old, weathered homes and yards filled with dry-docked boats, crab traps, fishing nets, buoys and floats among other fishing paraphernlia.
