Juvenile Night Herons by HH Photography of Florida.
Two juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Herons (Nyctanassa violacea) are seen standing among the bare branches of a mangrove tree in the late afternoon sunlight. This area is a mangrove lined lagoon that serves as a small rookery during breeding season so it’s always a joy to see the fledged youngsters out and about. The naturally dark background shows off the buff brown and white plumage of these young birds. Photographed on the Florida Gulf coast.
