Description
Heavy Lifting - Phosphate Mining by HH Photography of Florida.
A humongous, electrically driven dragline removes a layer of dirt called overburden during phosphate mining operations here in central Florida. Phosphate mining in Florida has been a part of our history for many years because central Florida has the largest and most easily accessible deposit of phosphate ore in North America. Every time I pass by these giant mechanical behemoths, I am always amazed at their enormity and their earthmoving capabilities. Some of the buckets of these larger draglines are big enough to accommodate a large passenger bus. The operator of this dragline is sitting in a tiny, glass enclosed cabin at the bottom right portion of the crane body. Photographed in west central Florida.

This is not what comes to mind when I think of Florida thanks for showing the working side of the state!

Thanks Kandy. There's another side of Florida that many people never see, especially visitors just passing through. :)
