Description
Amid the yellows and golds of an October autumn, the Cullasaja River cascades down the mountain from its point of origin near Highlands, NC, through the Nantahala National Forest of western North Carolina.
A solitary fisherman enjoys an afternoon of angling in the cold waters of the river, surrounded by the beautiful colors of autumn. The late day sunlight filters through the trees and bathes the landscape with it's golden light.
The Eastern Continental Divide runs through the town of Highlands. In many places along this divide, waters run eastward to the Atlantic only a few feet from waters headed westward toward the Gulf of Mexico. Water in the Cullasaja River is bound for the Gulf of Mexico. This river is a tributary of the Little Tennessee River and eventually empties into the Tennessee, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers downstream. Cullasaja means "honey locust place" in the Cherokee language. Fishing On The Cullasaja by HH Photography of Florida / Original fine art photography.
