One of the many little beggars that always wait around the docks for returning fishermen hauling in their catch. The Pelicans (and others) learned very quickly that this was often a golden opportunity for a free lunch so they're never far away from the boat launches, docks or anywhere fishermen are cleaning fish. Probably my most favorite bird to photograph, the Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is a clown, a fabulous fisherman, a fastidious groomer, a social butterfly and just darned interesting to look at. Photographed in Sarasota, Florida.
