Color Me Red - Dragonfly by HH Photography of Florida.
I found this little Scarlet Skimmer, aka the Crimson Darter, resting on a leaf in a local botanical park. This particular dragonfly is a subspecies named (Crocothemis servilia mariannae) Originally a native of Asia, it was introduced into the Florida environment quite by accident. Their habitat of choice are the wetlands and marshes found in abundance here in subtropical central and south Florida. The males are a very colorful bright red whereas the females and immature are mostly a yellowish color.
