Description
Boca Grande Light - Lighthouse by HH Photography of Florida.
The Boca Grande Entrance Rear Range Lighthouse is one of two lighthouses located within Gasparilla Island State Park. It was originally built in 1881 and served as the Delaware Breakwater Rear Range Light until it was discontinued in 1918, disassembled in 1921 and shipped to Miami via rail. It was reassembled in 1927 in its present location on Gasparilla Island on Florida's west coast and rechristened Boca Grande Entrance Rear Range Lighthouse. The lighthouse became operational in 1932. Although no longer a range light, the tower's white light is alternately on for three seconds and off for three seconds, continuing to guide vessels safely through Boca Grande Channel into the sheltered safety of Charlotte Harbor.
