Description
A sunlit chrysalis of Oiketicus abbotii ... or Abbott's Bagworm Moth, hanging from the underside of a leaf on a yellow flowering plant. These moths are found throughout the southeastern coastal states from the Carolina's to Texas, including Florida. I have seen these little wooden structures before but never knew what they were until now. Photographed on the Florida Gulf coast. Thank you Jim Williams, for featuring Oiketicus Abbotii in the FAA group WHAT Interrobang. Very much appreciated.

Glad you now know what these are, Helen! One is a work of art; many are an infestation that can be ugly as well as harmful to the plant.

Thanks Kathryn. I know they can be considered a pest if they get out of control but the cocoon sure is interesting.
