Description
Northern Shovelers by HH Photography of Florida.
A Mr. and Mrs. Northern Shoveler resting on a lake in west central Florida. The Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) is a common dabbling duck and is a winter visitor to Florida although these two were the first I had ever seen in the wild. The Shovelers are easily identified and unmistakenly recognized by their very large, spatulate shaped bills.

Hi Helen! Your beautiful capture has been featured by Wild Birds Of The World. I haven't seen these birds yet, so another bucket list bird. :) L/F

Finely detailed shot, Helen! The drake is even more beautiful when in full plumage.
HH Photography of Florida replied:
Thank you, Kathy. Yes, I think his head is bright green for one thing, when in breeding plumage.
