Love Birds - Great Blue Heron by HH Photography of Florida.

A mated pair of Great Blue Herons prepare their nest for the arrival of eggs that will be the beginning of a new, beautiful GBH family. The male has chosen the nesting site, courted to attract a mate (they usually mate with a different female each year,) and has been fetching nesting material, flying off to find just the right twigs and branches for the nest that will be the home for their new babies. Eggs will hatch in about 27 days after eggs are laid. The chicks will take their first flight in about 55 days (northern range) 80 days (southern range) and will return to the nest for another 3 weeks to be fed.
