Description
A Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus) found standing on a rural fencepost. There are two types of vultures found in Florida ... the Black Vulture and the Turkey Vulture although most people don’t make the distinction and just call them buzzards. Not one to win a beauty or popularity contest, they are, however, nature’s proverbial “clean-up crew” and serve a very useful and important function in our environment. The Black Vulture is protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. Photographed in west central Florida.
