A beautiful Great Egret (Ardea alba) takes to the air, showing off it's exceptional elegance and beauty.
This graceful, large heron has all white plumage, black legs and a yellow beak. In flight, the herons retract their necks which distinguishes them from other birds such as storks or cranes who fly with their necks extended. Males and females are virtually identical in appearance and are found in great numbers throughout the United States and as far north as southern Canada.
On this day, the sea oats are in full bloom, summer storm clouds gather for a late afternoon shower and all is well on the beautiful west coast of Florida.
